The revitalization of the Gillion site unfolded from within. The entire inner area of the contractor company was designed as the ‘heart of the site’. A range of activities can take up residence around this place: offices, but also studios, workshops and makerspaces. Instead of a bare concrete plain, a lushly planted courtyard is proposed with a pleasant terrace. The closed architecture and the many individual formal office spaces created the need to connect, meet and relax. The garden enlivens the site from within and acts as a common denominator between Gillion and the future users and visitors.
In the design of the Gillion offices there was played with the existing structure and operated within the walls of the existing architecture. We decided not so much to see the typical joinery with glass infill as separating but rather as connecting. The wall between the offices can be flexibly adjusted, creating sheltered zones and informal corners for consultations and discussions.
